Poker Glossary

You could hear in basketball games phrases like "from downtown", or "buzzer beater". If you are not a basketball fan, you will have no idea what they mean, just like in poker. If you do not know most of the poker slang, you would miss half the fun of watching poker on your television.

All Iin - in poker, this means that a player bets all of his chips to the pot.

Catch - this happens in poker when a player's prayers are answered in the draw. If a poker player, is going for a straight draw, if he gets the card he needed at the river, then he caught it.

Chase - poker players do this just to see the draw. They usually are expecting to make something out of the draw. To chase is not a good play in poker, and you usually will lose if you chase. If you are expecting to get a straight draw, or a flush draw, you have very little chances of forming them.

Donation - this happens when a poker player calls when he should have folded because he has a really bad hand. A poker player usually does this because he is bored and wants to be in action with the other players at the poker table.

Down to the Felt - a poker jargon that mocks somebody who have already gone all-in and lost. The felt refers to the cloth on top of the poker table. The jargon wants to say that the player has nothing left, and all you can see on his side of the table now is the felt, which his chips had occupied before.

Final Table - in poker tournaments, this is the final round in which players fight it out against others who also have won in other poker tables.

Forward Motion - is a regulation in poker tournaments or casinos in which a player who has started to place his chips forward to the pot, he could no longer retract and change his mind. He could no longer check or fold. He has to bet, either he should call or raise. This poker regulation is comparable to chess's touch-move.

Rainbow - a rainbow in poker is the three or four of the community cards, which are not suited. They are called a rainbow because they have different suits, resembling a real rainbow, and make the poker table colorful.

Home Game - a home game is a poker game played at home instead of casinos. Usually played among friends, family, relatives and co-workers, and the stakes are lower than in the poker games found in casinos.
